WorldSkills Competition

The WorldSkills Competition is a global event that highlights the talents of young professionals in a wide range of vocational and technical fields. Often called the “Olympics of Skills,” it brings together competitors aged 17-25 from over 60 countries to showcase their abilities across more than 60 skill categories, including information technology, robotics, mechatronics, web development, graphic design, and traditional trades.
Participants are selected through national competitions and compete to demonstrate excellence in their craft. The event serves as a platform to promote the value of vocational training, raise awareness about skilled professions, and improve the quality of global skills development.

By providing opportunities for young professionals to gain international recognition, WorldSkills fosters a sense of pride, encourages innovation, and helps connect talent with career opportunities. It’s not just a competition—it’s a celebration of skill, expertise, and craftsmanship on a global stage.

WorldSkills vision

Improving our world with the power of skills.

WorldSkills mission

To raise the profile and recognition of skilled people, and show how important skills are in achieving economic growth and personal success.

WorldSkills position

The global hub for skills excellence and development.

Held once every two years, WorldSkills Singapore (WSS) is a national skills competition to discover and recognise the most skilful youths in Singapore.

The competition aims to raise the standards of excellence in technical skills through competitions and generate greater public awareness and interest in technical education.

Competitors come from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), the polytechnics, universities, private educational institutions and the industry.

Competitors take part in various skills areas which cover the following five sectors: Creative Arts and Fashion, Infocomm Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Social and Personal Services, and Transport and Logistics. In recent years, new skills areas, such as Cloud Computing, Water Technology and Chemical Lab Technology, have been included to introduce youths to the importance of emerging sectors.

Top medallists stand the chance to represent Singapore at the prestigious international WorldSkills Competition (WSC) dubbed as the “ Youth Olympics of Skills”, or the regional WorldSkills ASEAN competition.

Singapore has been doing well in the WSC. For example, in the 45th WSC in Kazan, Russia in August 2019, Team Singapore delivered 22 medals – two golds, one silver, two bronzes and 17 Medallions for Excellence.
